My Story

Sylvita at a park in Vancouver

In 1992, my son and I arrived in Canada with two suitcases and a heart full of hope. We landed in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan — a small town where the cold cut right through you, and where we were among the very few Latinos for miles around. But that's how our life here began.

Over the years we kept moving. We lived in Ottawa, then Montreal, then Quebec City, and many years ago we settled in Vancouver, BC — the place we now call home. My granddaughter was also born here — she's already six years old.

How InfoSylvita Was Born

Community has always mattered to me. I spend my days teaching Spanish, giving art classes, and helping new Latin immigrants access the services they need when starting their new life in Canada. And in all that work, I kept seeing the same problem over and over: incredible Latin businesses that nobody could find, and because of the high cost of living, they were closing down.

One day I asked my son — who builds technology products — how businesses manage to show up on Google and AI chatbots like ChatGPT. He explained that the key is having a presence in multiple places online to build trust and visibility.

"Build me a place where I can bring together all the Latin businesses in Canada," I told him. "One single site where they're all together."

And that's how InfoSylvita was born.

The Mission

InfoSylvita is not just a directory. It's a space for Latin businesses to gain visibility, improve their positioning on search engines and AI, and above all — to know each other and support one another.

Because when you're looking for an accountant, a barber, or a real estate agent, why not choose someone from your community? Someone who speaks your language, understands your culture, and shares your values.

That's what we're building here: a community that rises together.

What's Coming

In the coming months we'll keep growing. We're building connections with local agencies that offer grants, subsidies, and opportunities for businesses in Canada. I want InfoSylvita to be more than a directory — I want it to be a bridge to success for every Latin business in this country.

Sylvita and the community

With much love,
